Why is it so difficult to talk about sex? Fran Bushe, comedian and creator of The Diary of My Broken Vagina and Ad Libido, joins Creative Conversations host Yang-May Ooi to talk about talking about sex – and how we can all be more empowered by being honest about what we like or don’t like when we make love.
Fran Bushe on Talking about Sex CCV0301 ¦ Creative Conversations [podcast]
In January this year, I signed up for a stand up comedy course with much trepidation – but a determination to try something scary and different this year. Fran Bushe was the course teacher and created a fun and safe space to experiment.
She encouraged us to develop comedy based on our own personal experiences, especially things that we felt passionate about. This gave us permission to create comedy out of pain, sadness, anxiety and also joy that was authentic to each of us. My class colleagues and I spent 7 Saturday afternoons being completely silly and also supporting each other as we tried out all kinds of jokes and stories.
I was thrilled when Fran agreed to come onto my podcast to talk about how she created comedy out of her own painful experience of Female Sexual Dysfunction.

Trigger warning: Fran and I talk frankly about sex and sexual activity and we also refer to the male and female anatomy including reference to genitalia. If you think you might find such content offensive, upsetting or uncomfortable in any way, please do not listen to this episode.
