In this episode of Creative Conversations, we try something different. Host Yang-May Ooi meets author Anna Sayburn Lane at Tate Britain to record their views and impressions as they visit the William Blake exhibition (11 Sep 2019 – 02 Feb 2020). We also hear from one of the curators of the exhibition, Martin Myrone, offering his personal reflections on his work putting together the exhibition over the last few years.
William Blake at Tate Britain Review – with Yang-May Ooi and Anna Sayburn Lane CCV0207 ¦ Creative Conversations [podcast]
Anna Sayburn Lane is a thriller writer whose novels have a twist of literary history. Her first novel Unlawful Things gave us thrills and spills around a secret relating to Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe. She is currently working on her second thriller – working title The Poison Tree – which features a secret history entangled with the life and work of William Blake.
For this second book, Anna has done extensive research into the life and times of Blake as well as poring over his writings and art. It was a great delight to have her along with me at the William Blake exhibition, sharing some of what she has discovered and her passion for his work.
I was also privileged to talk with Martin Myrone, one of the curators of the exhibition, who talked about his personal experience of putting together the exhibition over the last few years and also spoke excitedly about the relevance of Blake to us in modern times.
